Foules Regenerative Farm Project

Bringing regenerative agriculture practices to common crops grown in Louisiana

Welcome!

Foules Farm is a 250-acre research and demonstration farm located in Foules, Louisiana, operating without irrigation. Initially, we will rotate between soybeans and corn, with plans to introduce cotton in the future. The farm's goal is to explore and experiment with modern regenerative farming practices

The business of farming has become extremely difficult.  Low commodity prices and high input costs have made it economically unviable in many cases.  Farmers are looking for an alternative but cannot afford the risk of trying something new that might not work.  Our goal is to take that risk on behalf of the farmers in hopes of developing a new method of farming that our neighbors can learn from.  Our primary focus is not yields or developing the cleanest fields, our focus is on making more money by reducing input costs.

We will be implementing procedures that have never been used in Louisiana before.  While we anticipate making mistakes and experiencing setbacks, we encourage you to offer suggestions, ask questions, and learn at our expense.

We will provide up to date reports and photos on what we are testing in each of our 5 test plots.  You are welcome to walk the fields to watch our progress firsthand.

This experiment farm is owned by the Vegas family. It is financially supported by Sage V Foods.  The farm is managed by Braxton Batte. Vayda Ag supplies some funding and expertise.

Soy Bean planted into Cover Crop

plot 1 041525.JPG

Fall 2025 Plan

  • Fields 04 & 05 (corn ground): Harvested in August, cover crop drilled mid-September (100% summer mix). Goal: maximize growth before frost; residue suppresses weeds until corn planting in March.

  • Field 03 (soybeans): Harvest late September; cover crop flown in mid-September into yellowing beans (100% summer mix). Also planned for corn in March.

  • Fields 01 & 02 (soybeans): Harvest late September. In October, drill summer/winter cover mix (triticale, oats, barley, rye) to test early-maturing, high-biomass grasses. Planned for soybeans, but may switch to corn if soybean prices stay low.

Spring 2026 Plan

  • Initial plan: Plant fields 03–05 in corn (March) and fields 01–02 in soybeans (April).

  • Goal: Synchronize corn and soybean harvests by early September, enabling early cover crop planting and easier annual rotation.
